New Feature: Instantly Display Survey Results

Ever wanted to share the results of your survey with your respondents? With our newest feature, Instant Results, you can do exactly that.

Once enabled, Instant Results adds a page to the end of your survey that contains a summarized view of answers. As soon as a respondent completes your survey, we’ll show them this page so that they can browse through results and see how others responded.

Setting up Instant Results is simple: add a collector to your survey (it works for every kind of collector), and then click on “Change Settings.” Under “Display Survey Results?” select “Yes,” and you’re ready to go.

Instant Results is great for surveys where the results are applicable to the community answering the questions; like an office survey to pick a theme for the annual company party, or a parent survey to select field trips for the coming school year. It’s also great for blogs and websites that want to engage readers and visitors by asking them to share their opinions on popular topics. Check out Instant Results in action here in our NCAA Sweet 16 survey:

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey, the world’s leading questionnaire tool.

To add a survey to your site with Instant Results, just like the one above, you need to: add a Website Collector to your survey. Select “Embed” for the type of collector, and then follow the instructions above to enable Instant Results. Once you add the embed survey code to your site, visitors will be able to take the survey, and immediately see a results summary, just like in the survey above.

To make sure that we don’t reveal too much information, Instant Results will always show a summary of answers, and never what any one individual selected. We also hide the results of all question types that are open-ended in nature, such as the Essay, Text, and Numerical Boxes, and limit displaying results to no more than 15 questions so as not to overwhelm respondents. To ensure that we can deliver results to even the highest traffic websites, Instant Results may at times delay tallying up new answers by a few minutes. If you are interested in additional details on how the feature works, head over to our help center and read the Instant Results FAQ.

Instant Results isn’t for all surveys, but in cases where viewing results is beneficial to your respondents, it’s a great way to inform, engage, and delight them.  Have a good use for Instant Results?  Please share it with us in the comments below.

  1. Not Comment.
    Thanks very much.

    • You’re welcome!

  2. Can this software be used with cellphone applications for instant response at a seminar where computers are not available to everyone?

  3. We have a need for respondents to be able to immediately see & print their own results, but not the results of others – is this possible with the new instant results feature?

    • Hi Courtney–thanks for your question! We currently don’t have the ability to have respondents see only their own results, but appreciate the suggestion and will share with our product team.

  4. Would love to see a confirmation email option for those who take the survey option!

    • Hi Kristen–thanks for the great suggestion!

  5. They should be able to see the % out of the number of responses or it could be misloeading. 50% when it is 50/100 is more meaningful than 50% 1 of 2.

    • Hi Alfred–Thanks for the feedback! You have the option to display the number of responses along with the percentage when you use the instant results feature. We just didn’t include that in our example here, but it’s available.

  6. Can this be integrated in some way with an e-newsletter?

  7. i like it……
    a good incentive

  8. Very interesting and exciting indeed

  9. thank u guarav O !

  10. when i send my clients a survey..is there a way for it show who the respondent was once they have answered the survey.

  11. very helpful

  12. it’s more convnient

  13. I have been using survey monkey surveys to great affect. The customer interaction makes them a lot more receptive to purchasing. Before, I had to create a survey, send it out, and then send back the responses to my list. Now, I wonder how it will affect customer decisions when I put it up on the site in real time. Can’t wait to try.

  14. I am wondering with this feature if I can choose to display only the percentages of answers that people chose instead of the actual number (ie: 234 people responded to this question) etc. I only want the percentages in my results. Possible?

  15. Hello I am doing a research project at Morgan State University. I would like to host surveys as a data collection tool on my website. However, I want individuals to only see their results and/or display results individually. Is this possible? If so, how?

    • Hi Semaj – Our Share Response Link or our Instant Results features are only able to display everybody’s results at this time. Please note that with the Share Response link you can offer respondents the possibility to browse individual responses, for everybody.
Professional subscribers can privately share the results with others by using the Share Responses feature : http://help.surveymonkey.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/263
Use Instant Results to immediately show a summary of the results to respondents upon completion : http://help.surveymonkey.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/165 Thanks!

  16. I’m playing with embedding surveys on my class website and/or online textbook. I have Instant Results activated, but since students won’t all take the survey at the same time, I’m wondering how they might view the Instant Results at a later log-in without taking the survey again. (In case this factors in, I need to set the survey to allow multiple users from the same computer.) Any options?

    • Hi Phil. What a great idea. It sounds like you might find our “Share Responses” option valuable. This is when can allow others privately view the results without giving them access to your account. This is accomplished through the “Share Responses” link in the Analyze section. You also have the ability to add a password to the link. Here’s a little more info about how to set this up: http://svy.mk/WW5g7K

      Good luck!

  17. I’m amazed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s both equally educative and amusing, and let me tell you, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is an issue that not enough folks are speaking intelligently about. I’m very happy that I found this during my
    search for something concerning this.

  18. I read this post completely regarding the difference of most up-to-date and preceding technologies, it’s awesome article.
