We’re excited to announce the launch of Rewards, a powerful new feature that lets you add coupons, sweepstakes, and other rewards to your surveys. We wanted to tell you more about how it works so you can take advantage of it on your next survey.
How it Works
Adding a Reward to your survey is easy: first create a collector, and then click on the link labeled “Reward” on the left side of the page. Select the type of incentive you wish to award, and then follow the instructions to set it up the way you want.

Your prize will be active immediately after you finish the setup process, and available for respondents to claim once they complete your survey. To let your respondents know that it’s available, we’ll add a couple of pages to your survey:

Types of Rewards
You can offer three types of rewards to your respondents:
- Sweepstakes: invite your respondents to enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win an Amazon.com Gift Card, or a custom prize of your choosing (such as a gift basket containing your company’s swag). At the end of the prize period, we’ll select a winner from amongst your respondents and send them the prize if it was a gift card. If it was a custom prize, we’ll tell you who won so you can can reward them. Cost: $15 setup fee, and the value of the gift card.
- Instant Win Game: let your respondents spin the wheel at a chance to win a $100 Amazon.com gift card. If they win, we’ll send them their prize and pay for it out of our own pocket; you only pay the $15 setup fee! How can we afford to do that? We pick one lucky winner across all SurveyMonkey surveys each week.
- Coupon: design a customized coupon for your business (such as 10% off every $100 purchase), and let every respondent print it out after they complete your survey. Cost: $15 setup fee.

We Make it Easy
The best thing about Rewards is that we take care of all the things that usually make it a hassle to offer prizes: generating official rules so your prize can be offered legally, accepting and tracking entries, selecting winners, and even delivering prizes (depending on the type of prize you pick). Our goal is to take what is usually a distracting, time consuming and cumbersome process, and turn it into something that takes just a few clicks.
If you’d like to see Rewards in action, please take the survey below. Who knows, you might walk away with a $100 Amazon.com Gift Card in the process.

I have an account w/ Survey Monkey and am exploring how to use the tool. What is legally required of the survey sponsor when using the Prizes feature? Where can I find more info about how to start using this tool?
Thanks!
Anne R, Apr 22, 2011
Hi Linsey–Here’s more information on policies regarding using prizes: http://www.surveymonkey.com/prizingpolicy.aspx, and you can learn more about how to start using the feature here: http://help.surveymonkey.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/122/kw/rewards

Brilliant! Thanks for adding this very valuable marketing tool which will help to increase response rates and make it easier to execute a reward program.
Anne R, Apr 28, 2011
Hi Greg–thanks so much for the positive feedback! Would love to hear your input if/when you use the feature and what you think (and also what impact you see)!
Sally, Apr 28, 2011
Can you offer a gift card itself (not just a chance to win)? Something like a $25 Amazon gift card, for example.
Anne R, Apr 28, 2011
Hi Sally–thanks for asking! You can choose the custom coupon option and use that to give every respondent a gift card, a discount, or another type of reward. Let us know how you end up using it!
Marshall, Sep 27, 2012
Hi Anne,
How do you send a participant an Amazon (or similar retailer) gift card via this method?
Thanks!
Sheila G, Oct 29, 2012
Hi Marshall. Good question! When you add a Reward to your survey, respondents are required to include their email addresses if they want to qualify for a prize. After the survey is completed, our partner E-Prize will take care of randomly selecting a winner and contacting him or her to redeem the gift-card. It is made available by download. Let us know if you have any more questions!

This is wonderful. Thanx.
Any chance of incorporating a process where all participants could get access to a free itunes song or something like that?
Of course, the surveymonkey customer (me or my school) would pay for the cost, but the survey participant, could get the incentive immediately and no paper would need to get printed.
No good deed goes unpunished, just thought. Keep up the great work.
Anne R, Apr 28, 2011
Daniel–thanks for your feedback
. Love the suggestion of a prize that can be downloaded, like iTunes. We are continuing to work on improving this new feature, so really value the suggestions. We’ll keep you updated on enhancements and additional rewards! Keep the ideas coming…
Kathy, Apr 28, 2011
Would you consider setting this up so that multiple people could be “prize drawing winners” rather than just one? 3-5 winners would be great and I would definitely use the Rewards feature if that were possible. Thanks!
Anne R, Apr 28, 2011
Hi Kathy–that’s a great suggestion. Thanks for letting us know what you’d like to see added! We’re continuing to work on making this new feature even better, so this really helps!
Jen, Apr 29, 2011
How can we prevent individuals from re-entering surveys to boost their chance of winning? I understand we can restrict IP addresses but they can still use different computers. It isn’t possible to give each respondent a unique code either. Any suggestions?
Heidi H, Apr 29, 2011
After I finished taking YOUR survey, the page to enter the sweepstakes wouldn’t load. It wouldn’t let me go back to try again.
Anne R, Apr 29, 2011
Hi Heidi–yikes! We’re sorry to hear that. We’ll reach out by email and help you get your entry in
Boyce Byerly, Apr 29, 2011
We had good luck with giving a small donation to a charity for each completed survey. I think it can be a more powerful motivator for the professionals who are most of our business analytics survey work. For example, giving a few dollars to tsunami relief, or the choice or red cross or boy scouts, is a good motivator.
Thanks for adding this feature. We find, for the value of the analytics work we do for our clients, that paying a little extra for something like that gives a handsome ROI.
I think adding the ‘donation to a charity’ variant on this feature would be pretty easy, but a great win all the way around.

Anne R, Apr 29, 2011
HI Boyce–thanks for sharing your experience and for the great idea for an alternative incentive. It’s nice to hear how well it’s worked for you and that you’re finding an innovative way to give to charity as you’re conducting your research. We’re continuing to work on improving this feature, so will certainly add that to our list of enhancements.
Lorre, Apr 29, 2011
Hi Anne,
I’m glad Survey Monkey has added this functionality, but I have a concern.
I went through the sweepstakes registration process to see what it would be like for participants if we choose to use. I found that the page for entering the sweepstakes would accept all of my personal information, but did not display the entry button. The screen cut off right after the captcha, with no scroll ability or other option to get to the “enter” key. If we were to use this function, I’m concerned about whether our customers would experience the same issue, turning an attempt at a positive customer experience into a negative one with implications to the brand.
Thanks for any clarification you can provide on the issue.
Anne R, May 2, 2011
Hi Lorre–thanks for sharing that feedback. We definitely want to make sure it’s a good experience for all. We’ll take a look at see if we can figure out what is happening. Someone from our support team may reach out to get additional details from you if you don’t mind. Thanks again!
Abe, Apr 29, 2011
This might be obvious to other people but is the setup fee a ONE time cost or are we charged $15 every time someone completes a survey?
Anne R, May 2, 2011
Hi Abe–the $15 is a one-time set up fee. Let us know if you need more information!
Vladimir, May 3, 2011
Looking forward to winning a prize.
KUrt, May 3, 2011
I had similar problem with page not loading after I took survey. Makes me anxious about sending my clients this way. is there some prob with Firefox on Mac?
Anne R, May 4, 2011
Hi Kurt–thanks for letting us know. We’ll have our dev team take a look at Firefox on Mac specifically. In the meantime, let us know if you want us to enter you in!
Sally Kluin, May 5, 2011
I don’t have a website. I love your product. Winning your coupon would be a big help to me. Here’s hoping!

jack Standen, May 26, 2011
Do you need to be upgraded because I dont see it on my account?
Anne R, May 27, 2011
Hi Jack–you don’t need to be in our upgraded plans to use Rewards. You should see the option to add a Reward after you’ve set up a collector for your survey. If you need help, please feel free to email us at support@surveymonkey.com. Thanks!
Paul, Jun 22, 2011
How do I get my prize if I win? You did not collect any contact information from me.
Anne R, Jun 22, 2011
Hi Paul–you should have gotten a prompt to enter your information at the end of the survey. We can enter you manually using your email address, so just let us know if you’d like us to do that. Thanks!

Is it possible for the reward end date to be a floating end date, based upon a number of months from the completion of the survey? Our salon sends out thank you notes to our first time guests. They are encouraged to answer a less-than-a-minute survey about their initial experience in the salon. We reward them with a $5 coupon. Because I go in weekly to email the rewards, I can easily send them an email with an expiration of 3 months from the date of survey completion. Using your rewards I have to set a date sometime in the future irregardless of when the survey is completed. Perhaps this is not a good platform for this type of situation.

I really like the sweepstakes incentive feature. Is it possible to offer an incentive every week over a 6 week period so that there is a smaller group of candidates or as was suggested earlier can their be several winners (3-4) rather than just one.
Hanna J, May 30, 2012
Hi Seamus!
Great question. If you’d like to offer a reward to several respondents there is a way to do this. You may only apply one reward per collector. So what you would need to do is purchase a separate reward for each collector. Then you would need to distribute a different collector to different audiences. Otherwise, if you will only have one collector (or means in which your survey will be accessed), then you would have to only have one reward and one winner.
Alternatively, you can purchase multiple rewards for one collector and create multiple end dates. There will still only be one winner for each reward date. In other words, you may add a reward, create an end date and when the reward has reached that date, a respondent will be rewarded. Then you may add another reward. If you have any further questions, we’ll be more than happy to help! Feel free to email support@surveymonkey.com any time. Thanks!

How does eprize ensure that the prize does not get awarded to people who are turning in incomplete (or falsified) responses to enter the sweepstakes?

Is it possible to win a prize if you’re under 18?
Kayte K, Jun 12, 2013
Hi Natasha! Our rewards respondents must be at least age 18 or older. Thanks for asking!
