SurveyMonkey Integrates with MailChimp

Surveys and email marketing go hand in hand. Now, two of your favorite online primates, SurveyMonkey and MailChimp are holding hands to make life easier for all. With the launch of our API integration, you can easily populate a MailChimp email campaign with a SurveyMonkey survey for fast, reliable responses from your email list.

How does it work?

As you create an email campaign in MailChimp, select one of SurveyMonkey’s templates during Step 3 of the Campaign Builder process. There are three pre-designed templates for you to choose from–you can further customize them to meet your needs.

The first time through, you’ll be prompted to authorize MailChimp to connect with your SurveyMonkey account.

This lets MailChimp find the relevant survey to include in your email template.

After you have given MailChimp permission to access the surveys within your SurveyMonkey account, you will be prompted to select which survey to include in your email campaign.

Your survey will now be connected to your email template so that response data coming back in to your survey can be automatically connected to all the other great data in MailChimp on who opened your emails, who clicked, who forwarded, and who loves you. As our friends at MailChimp like to say, “Eep! Eep!” which in simian speak is, “this is fabulous!”

If you don’t already have a MailChimp account, get started here. And while you’re there, check out this awesome and detailed post from Ben at MailChimp with step-by-step instructions from the MailChimp side (and a cool diagram that includes monkeys holding hands. Awww, so cute!).

We’d love to hear how you use this new integration to help take your emails and surveys to the next level. Please share your examples and stories in the comments below.

  3. I enjoy using both services, but if i connect them will anyone who uses SurveyMonkey have access to my MailChimp as well?

  4. Awesome! If only all primates got along so well.

Or is this…. wait a minute… this is the beginning of the Rise, isn’t it? YOU MANIACS! YOU MASHED IT UP! OH, DARN YOU! GOSH DARN YOU ALL TO HECK!

  5. Hi Kate, all sounds really helpful and interesting for future projects! One question I do have is whether or not you will be able to see who exactly has said what. The company I work for, Project::4, is an events agency, and we are interested in using surveys for feedback purposes after events. If people give feedback, we often would like to contact them in order to communicate further about their concerns/problems/issues/likes/dislikes etc. Will this be possible or are responses anonymous?

    Many thanks

    Jon Harvell

  7. Hi Survey wizards, It’s not too long when I first heard of Survey monkey and that was when I was going for a TOT(2months ago). The facilitator sent us an online form with a batch of questions. Amazingly, I could not edit any thing!!!!!!Eeeh!!!

  16. I would like to feature the survey on my website and anyone that enters would have their email address automatically entered to MailChimp. Is that a possibility?

    Thanks!

    • CHristina -

Thanks for your comment. This is a great idea. Unfortunately, it’s not an option that exists right now, but it’s an integration that is on the team’s radar. We’ll keep you posted as more MailChimp features are rolled out.

  17. Good business idea ! I would be happy to work with this team.. but .. I have’nt money to invest in this business. ..Certainly in the future …

    • Hi Gerald – Thanks for your comment! We appreciate the support. Blog love is another great form of investment in our book! Thanks.

  18. If you send to a list of emails imported into SurveyMonkey, you can later resend to everyone who hasn’t responded yet. Is there a way to do that if you use Mailchimp?

  19. This excellent website truly has all of the information I wanted about this subject and didn’t know who to ask.

  22. Does Survey Monkey harvest email addresses that I use from my current account list? This is something I do not wish to share.

    • Hi Jimmy, thanks for the question and don’t worry, we do not harvest email addresses!

  23. Hi SurveyMonkey,

I have gone through the step described in the article you mention above, and looked at a couple of youtube videos, but the integration isn’t working for me. I have created the study, then created the campaign, the used a SurveyMonkey template, connected it and clicked on the study I wanted to use, but instead of importing that study, the content doesn’t change from the “Company X” and “We need your feedback” content. I don’t know why the 2 are not synching?
    Thanks, Mica

  24. Great feature but having a big problem. Used it and got my MailChimp newsletter ready to go then realized I had selected the wrong survey. Went back to re-do but it cannot find my survey now. Have looked in help for answers but no luck. Any ideas what to try?

    • Hi Janet! If you could kindly send us a note to support@surveymonkey.com with the email address attached to your SurveyMonkey account, we can take a look for you!
