Every four years, the presidential election places a handful of states in the national spotlight. These “battleground” or “swing” states–so called because no political party or candidate has secured overwhelming support from voters–are often the focal point of campaigners in the last few weeks of the election and are on the receiving end of an unending stream of campaign ads, phone calls, and visits by candidates.
Here at SurveyMonkey, we wanted to know just how much these supposed swing states had swung over the past month.
Are voter preferences in these states really as fickle as people think they are? Or do they stay constant? Here’s our analysis of voting trends in Colorado, Florida (in the chart on the left), Pennsylvania, Michigan, Iowa, Virginia, Wisconsin, Nevada, Ohio, and North Carolina.
