Have you ever taken a survey that required you select one answer when in reality, you’ve got a pretty wide range of preferences you’d rather share? For instance, if you’re an ice-cream lover, you might want to report back that you love chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla (in that order), instead of saying you only like chocolate best.
In this situation, we’d recommend using our Ranking Question type. This allows your respondents to take the answers provided and thanks to our nifty drag-and-drop functionality, rank their preferences.
So, how do you get started? Check out this quick video for step-by-step instructions on how to add Ranking Questions.
And for the record, our favorite flavor is definitely Chunky Monkey.

Is there a way to score a ranking question by assigning answers a value based upon where they rank them?
Kayte K, Jan 9, 2013
Hi Jason- Thanks for your question! It can be tricky differentiating between the two types of questions- rating vs. ranking. With a rating question, you can assign value to the question for your respondents. With a ranking question, your respondents can drag and drop choices depending on where they want to rank them.
Here are the pages to our Help Center that may help:

If someone does not like all of the choices available, is there a way to rate a selection(s) as 0? Personally, if ice cream is not chocolate, I don’t eat it.
Kayte K, Jan 17, 2013
We hear you, it’s hard to beat chocolate ice cream! And yes, in answer to your great question- you can use zero as a rating scale. The system will accept positive and whole numbers only. Hope that helps and thanks for reading!

Thanks for the tutorial
. I just wanted to ask if it is possible in a ranking question to add an “Others” (or the like) choice with a text box beside it for people to write their choice that might not be included. If it is, then how? If it is not, then can you suggest an alternative?
Kayte K, May 13, 2013
Hi Scarletia, you can add Other boxes in Rating questions but not in Ranking unfortunately. You might want to consider creating a separate question after your ranking question that includes an Other option. Let us know if that makes sense!
Scarletia, May 15, 2013
Yes, it makes sense. It will make the survey longer though. Thanks anyway!
